This afternoon for our daily prayer, Year 5 and 6 selected from a range of suggestions. These were praying whilst: making a daisy chain (a daisy for each thought), sitting peacefully somewhere, lying down, being together and being alone. The children have found great benefit starting the afternoon in this calm and reflective way 🙏
We welcomed Sean from Somerset Cricket Club who led fantastic cricket sessions with all children across the school from Reception up to Year 6. Great cricket skills were shown and lots of collaboration too! Cricket sessions will be running on Friday evenings at Cranmore Cricket Club if children would like to take part.
Falcons created their scaled maps of the Maya civilisation to understand why there were particular regions, the importance of trade and why some factions of the Maya were so different.
We have three superb peripatetic music teachers who offer weekly lessons at St Aldhelm's. This week, Mrs Brock joined us to entertain us with some amazing violin playing including pieces from Taylor Swift, Pirates of the Caribbean, James Bond and Harry Potter. We even had a spontaneous sing along to ABBA! Mrs Brock praised the children, firstly on their amazing worship singing but also their energy and fun. A joyous end to Friday worship.
Kingfishers some amazing recycled art to raise awareness of Plastic Pollution and these have been proudly displayed by the Art Bank in Shepton Mallet.
Some wow Science today 🤩
The children loved investigating the impact of increasing the number of bulbs in a circuit. There were great predictions made that could then be explored through practical experiments. The children used a light measuring app to gather reliable data. They tested their circuits multiple times and found the mean average. I was impressed with their conclusions and explanations for any anomalies. Amazing work Falcons 💡 👍
Owls will create an Egyptian Headdress but first they need to learn and experiment with some stitches they will need to use. It was cross stitch and blanket stitch this week! There was so much resilience shown and they really supported each other.
We are excited to take part in Thy Kingdom Come, a global wave of prayer that is happening between Ascension and Pentecost. Our challenge is to find different, creative ways to pray, remembering that there is no right or wrong way. So far, we have group gratitude prayers, prayer chains, and individually putting our hands together to say thank you for our food. We are excited to try new ways over the next 11 days!
After a Friday chocolate bagel, Breakfast Club ventured out into the glorious sunshine to play before school. Our Breakfast Club runs from 7.45am every day.
Spring has definitely sprung at St Aldhelm's. Mrs Bevan brought three beautiful lambs to join us. There were questions galore as well as cuddles for the whole school too!
We have an amazing team of cross country runners who run in the weekly club and Mendip races but some of our superstars were selected to run in the inter-area match representing Mendip with great success this week.
