Year Six Autumn Term 2007 - Class Teacher Mrs T Kaunhoven

The year has started with a burst of creativity for children in Year Six.

As part of Geography work on Contrasting Localities, the children have been using photographs to help them identify similarities and differences between life in Kenya and life in Britain. Linked to this work, and in preparation for a Wire Workshop run by Fiona Robson, the children used search engines and websites to find out about African flora and fauna. Having saved images, they translated photographs into large 2D line drawings which were then laminated.

On the second Monday of term, Fiona spent the morning working with Year Six on turning their designs into 3d sculptures. She brought in some inspirational wire sculptures that she, and past students, had made and then showed children how to use tools and a range of techniques for manipulating wire.

The children are rightly proud of their final sculptures, which are on display in class.

ACTION TRACK arrived for Weeks Three and Four of term. Working with Nick, Cindy and Rachel, class 5 and 6 children had a fantastic fortnight during which they worked collaboratively to produce a show on the theme of 'Choices'. See the PROJECTS section of the website for photographs and children's views on the whole ACTION TRACK experience.

Within class, the children worked hard in mixed aged groups to produce some super collages on the theme of 'New Beginnings', building on their work in PSHE.

We have all been working hard on improving our use of vocabulary. We started the term exploring how to create powerful images within poetry, modelling our ideas on poems by well-known poets. All the children have selected one of their own poems for the class anthology. Click here to see a few examples of the quality of work they have been producing.

Following on from Action Track, we have settled back into class routines quickly. We are now busy in English exploring different genres of fiction and are making a start on writing our own detective short story.
