Year Five Summer Term 2007 - Class Teacher Mr J Anderton

Term five is well underway and our focus for this term is contrast. With an investigation into the differences between the local area of today, and that of the Victorian age. In addition to our History work, we are comparing our local area with Bristol, looking for geographical features and benefits of living in different areas.

During DT this term we are designing and building moving toys, using cams and mechanisms, with the aim of producing a toy that a younger sibling, or school pupil, would enjoy playing with. Last term we made our own musical instruments, which we have used to composed and performed a piece of music.

Science this term has led us to explore the many rich habitats within the school grounds. Hoping to build our knowledge of adaptation and interdependence we have studied and identified many of the plants and animals thriving in our local area.

During English we have started the term with some poetry, looking at classical narrative works. The children have developed several freeze frames to capture the tale portrayed in 'The Highwayman' poem. Using ICT we have been able to produce a slideshow of these scenes including thought, speech and emotion bubbles.

The athletics season is here for PE and we have taken up net and balls games to enjoy the weather while we can. With sports day approaching and the regional mini Olympics, the children have will be continuing their skills development.
