Term
1 was all about ourselves for Year 3. We did self-portraits to send
to French schoolchildren and wrote letters of introduction to tell them
about ourselves. You can see some of the portraits on the website. We
learnt about healthy diets and how to look after our teeth in Science.
We put all that information to use when we designed healthy sandwiches
for a picnic in Design Technology.
Now it is Term 2 and our topic is Children in the Second World War.
Someone has brought in real gas mask for our display. We're listening
to 1940's music and have prepared questions for a visitor who was bombed
out of her house during an air raid when she was a child. We're hoping
to talk to someone who was an evacuee in this area.

We
usually come to school in uniform, but here is Year 3 on our carnival-themed
mufti day.

ART
As part
of our work all about ourselves we painted self-portraits. This work
was sent to our French partner school along with letters about ourselves
as an introduction.
We looked
at a portrait by Matisse, a French painter, and then we did our own
portraits in a similar style.
We had
photos of ourselves and traced the most important lines that make our
faces look the way they do.
We learned
how to mix colours so that they were just the way we wanted them.
We were
really pleased with the results. Here are a few for you to look at.
