Year Two Autumn Term 2006 - Class Teachers Mrs K Matthews

In DT this term Year Two have been learning about vehicles. We have had lots of fun learning about wheels and axles. The children had the opportunity to design and make a vehicle that moves. This vehicle was on the theme of Carnival.

Within Literacy lessons Year Two have been following instructions. The children made pirate hats, pirate ships, jam sandwiches and delicious cakes! The children produced excellent writing as a result of these activities.

As part of our History topic we have been focusing on The Great Fire of London. The children really enjoyed finding out about the fire and we produced a dance within our PE lessons. The children are rowing in a boat in this picture.

This term Year Two looked at the topic of Electricity in Science. It gave the children an introduction to the concept of electricity and the essential role it plays in everyday life. The children were also introduced to the hazards associated with electricity.

Our Geography topic this term was "An Island Home". We looked at the island of Struay which features in the Katie Morag stories. One of the main things we focused on is 'How is Struay similar to, and different from, our locality?'

Within Literacy we read the stories The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch and The Lighthouse Keeper's Breakfast. As a result the children made lighthouses linking our Geography topic with our Literacy and Science work as well.
