Year One Autumn Term 2007- Class Teachers Mrs S Pearson and Mrs F Yates

Year One have settled in to the class routine with amazing enthusiasm.

They respond to the register twice daily in French, each child following the one before in counting to ten. Shortly they will be doing numbers to fifteen then to twenty, but we haven't told them yet!
PE happens on Mondays and Wednesdays although Action Track is occupying the hall at present. Daily phonics and handwriting sessions are up and running and once correct directionality of each letter is established we will start teaching cursive writing, joining two letters at a time. Targets have been set for "Vocabulary" in English, each child being given a specific target. Once reached a second target will be applied then later a third. All targets will of course run alongside all other aspects of the English Curriculum.

We are finding out about Kenya this term and all children will be discovering what they can about the country, then sharing these discoveries with other class members. In science we are exploring "Ourselves" which helps us discover what is good and not so good for us. We have already found out that we use two senses whilst we sleep! We are finding out what happens to us as the years pass. We are bringing photos in to class to see some of the changes that have occurred already.

We are learning to count in twos, fives and tens in Maths. We will shortly be able to understand why some numbers are never said, and why the numbers have the same patterns at the end of them.
Year One need to bring their books into school every day as reading takes place daily, and sometimes we have extra people in the class to help hear more children read.
