Our attempts at re-writing scenes from Shakespeare’s ‘THE TEMPEST’

THE SCENE:  Miranda and Prospero watch the shipwreck

PROSPERO:
(To Miranda) Art thou inclined to want justice not revenge?
He turns and shouts at the wind.
PROSPERO:
Tempest, Tempest.  Thou come alive to bring justice to my hands.
He swirls his stick at the clouds.  Thunder and lightning go boom and crackle.
MIRANDA:
My heart is weeping, inclined to thy poor sailors.  Father, please stop.
PROSPERO:
Not a soul shall be harmed.  My deed is all in care of thee, Miranda.

He points to Miranda.  She falls asleep.

PROSPERO:
Thou art inclined to sleep, Miranda.

THE SCENE:  Miranda and Prospero watch the shipwreck
from the shore
PROSPERO:
Seas turn into fire,
Boats into bricks,
Sun into lightning,
Sea into blood.
Sharks freeze,
Tornandos appear,
Boats shatter,
Sailors drown!

THE SCENE:  Miranda and Prospero watch the shipwreck
from the shore
PROSPERO:
Wind, rain and lightning strike!

He shouts in an evil manner.

PROSPERO:
Point thou Tempest that I bade and slash the seas to torment the sailors…
Sailors cry in anguish.

…before you shatter thy soul into one thousand pieces                                Towards the smooth golden sun.

THE SCENE:  Prince Ferdinand and Miranda meet for the frst time

FERDINAND:
Thy beautiful eyes glisten in the moonlight.  Thy silky , golden hair waving in the midsummers breeze.  Thy ravishing face, so soft, so perfect.
MIRANDA:
What is this enchanting creature?  A devil?  An angel?  A Spirit?
PROSPERO:
(Sounding calm)  He will not harm you.  He is one of our kind.
MIRANDA:
I have a strange feeling father. He is something my eyes have not seen in this world.
PROSPERO:
Daughter, that feeling is love.

You silly fool!  You betrayed me!

He was my friend.  There was nothing I could do.  I was lying to You.
