Reception Class Autumn 2006 - Class Teacher Miss H Curtis

News from Reception Class

All the new reception children have settled in brilliantly and are now in school full time. They are working very well together and have already produced some lovely work.

Our topic for Autumn Term 1 is 'All About Me'. We began this topic by finding out about our five senses. We each brought in a different piece of fruit or vegetable and had a taste testing session. We found that oranges were the most popular with lemon being the least popular (lots of funny faces when the children tried this one!).We used our sense of touch to experiment with gloop..lots of messy fun! We played lots of games to find out the parts of the body and painted a self-portrait.

We then went on to finding out the needs of babies and even had an exciting visit from a mother and baby.

Reception Class have had another busy term working on the topic of 'Celebrations and Festivals'. We began by focusing on fireworks, carnival and bonfire. We then went on to finding out about the Hindu
'Festival of Lights': Diwali. This involved making a diwa (candle holder) out of clay and baking some tasty biscuits. We are now enjoying lots of Christmas activities: including baking mince pies and working in Santa's workshop.
Autumn Term 2 also saw the introduction of 'Welly Wednesday' -lots of muddy walks!
