International Pages - Our Partner School in Germany
Our partner school in Germany is Grundschule I "Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn" in the town of Wittenberge between Hamburg and Berlin. The headteacher is Frau Schulz (right). She spent two weeks at St. Aldhelm's in 2004 learning about life in a British Primary School. In 2005 Mrs Kaunhoven went to Germany and spent two weeks at Grundschule I "Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn".
We have exchanged work and held joint events like our World Cup 2006 project. We are working together as part of a Comenius project. We shall be joined in this by a school in France and a school in Spain.
In 2007 teachers from St. Aldhelm's will travelled to Germany to take part in the 100th birthday celebrations of the Grundschule.

100th Birthday Celebrations of Grundschule 1, 'Friedrich Ludwig Jahn'On 2nd April 2007 the pupils and teachers of Grundschule 'Friedrich Ludwig Jahn marked the 100th birthday of their school by holding a concert. They presented their 100 year history through drama, music and dance in front of an audience of 600 parents, former pupils and teachers, and local dignitaries.
Mrs Kaunhoven and Mr Whitewick travelled to Wittenberge to represent St. Aldhelm's Primary School at this event. Mr Whitewick made a short speech at the end of the performance which Mrs Kaunhoven translated into German! They presented the Grundschule with 100 photographs of our pupils at work as well as a small version of 'Dave', the stone sheep that keeps guard at the entrance to the school. Artist Jeff Body sculpted a smaller version for our German partner school.
Mrs Kaunhoven and Mr Whitewick came back loaded with presents too: T shirts made specially to celebrate this important birthday; posters and bookmarks and a dance routine to a German song which will be taught to St. Aldhelm's pupils.
