Dear Parents,

Year Six Residential Visit – London

We are planning to take Year Six to London for 2 nights (3 days), to experience the sights, sounds and culture of our capital city, between June 26th and June 28th inclusive.

The exact order of events has yet to be finalised but the intended programme will include:

·         Visits to the Science/Natural History Museums

·         Visit to two art galleries, including a gallery-led

      workshop at one

·         Boat trip up the Thames

·         Sightseeing – Buckingham Palace, Houses of

Parliament, The Mall, St. James’s Park

·         A meal out ‘somewhere nice’ in the evening

·         A West End theatre production

Accommodation on a bed/breakfast and packed lunch basis has been reserved at Baden Powell House, Queensgate, which is youth hostel accommodation run jointly by the Scout Organisation and Meininger City Hostels.   The intention is to travel to and from London using the train service from Castle Cary; we will use foot and tube for travel within London.

Three members of staff (male and female) will accompany the children on the trip, which will be led by Mrs Kaunhoven.

At this stage, we believe a voluntary contribution of approximately £160 will be needed to cover the costs.   Once all items are finalised a definitive figure will be available.   This contribution will include the cost of the stay at the Baden Powell House, all the activities, meals, County Insurance plus sundries such as first-aid kits, sun-cream etc.   If insufficient monies are forthcoming, this trip may have to be cancelled.

The school has taken children on residential visits for many years; we value the rewarding experiences that children gain from such excursions.   To this end, we wish all pupils in Year Six to take part.   Please talk to me or to Mr Whitewick if you have any concerns about this.

Residential trips have always been enjoyable experiences for children and staff alike, but this is only possible if every child behaves in a responsible and caring manner.   The school reserves the right to refuse a place to any child whose behaviour at school, it judges, could put at risk the enjoyment or safety of other party members.

In order for your child to take part in this residential trip, please complete and return the tear-off consent slip and return it to school by Friday February 16th 2007, together with a deposit of £30.00   Cheques to be made payable to Somerset County Council.   It will be possible to pay voluntary contributions by instalments.   All monies need to be paid by Friday 25th May 2007.

I plan to hold a meeting for parents and children in Term 4, before the Easter break, but should you have any concerns or questions about the residential visit or the voluntary contributions, please contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Tess Kaunhoven

As parent/guardian of ……………………………………….I have read, fully understood and am satisfied with the details supplied above concerning my son/daughter taking part in the Year 6 Residential Visit to London between June 26th and June 28th 2007 inclusive.

I am aware that:

(a)       Except for visits abroad, insurance arrangements are that the Authority only provides cover against proven negligence by the Authority and its employees.

(b)       I should consider making my own insurance arrangements for personal accident cover for my son/daughter.

I enclose a deposit of  £30.00 (Please make cheques payable to Somerset County Council)
