Dear Parent,
Year Six Educational Visit to Caerleon
As part of next term’s
history work on The Roman influence on life in Britain, I have planned
to take Year Six to the National Roman Legion Museum at Caerleon, near Newport
in Wales. Caerleon (Fortress Isca) was one of only three permanent fortresses
in Roman Britain. The museum is located within the substantial remains of the
fortress, which include the most complete amphitheatre in Britain, ‘empty’
Fortress baths, and the only remains of a Roman Legionary barracks on view
anywhere in Europe.
I have booked the trip for
Monday 4th December 2006. We will travel by coach, leaving school at
8.00 a.m. Your child will need to be at school for 7.50 a.m. Our visit to the site is scheduled to
last 4 ½ hours, during which the children will:
Ø
visit the Capricorn
Centre for a hands-on learning experience that includes role play and costumes.
(This session is led by museum educational staff)
Ø
visit the Gallery
Museum, which contains Roman artefacts
Ø
have lunch
Ø
have the chance to
spend pocket money on a souvenir
Ø
visit the Fortress
baths
Ø
explore the
amphitheatre and barracks (significant ruins)
The coach is due to return
to school at approximately 4.45 p.m.
Your child will need to
bring a ‘break time’ snack, a packed lunch and sufficient water/ soft drinks
for the day. As we will be spending some of the time outdoors, they will also
need to make sure that they have a coat, in case of rain, and a small
bag/backpack in which to carry their lunch/coat. You may wish your child to
bring a small amount of spending money for the museum shop; care of this money
will remain your child’s responsibility.
Your child will need to wear school uniform for this trip.
If you are happy for your
child to take part in this activity, please complete and return the attached
reply slip along with a voluntary donation of £9.40 by Thursday 19th
October.
Yours sincerely
Tess Kaunhoven
As parent/guardian of ………………………………….I have read, fully understood and am satisfied with the details supplied above concerning my son/daughter taking part in the school visit to Caerleon on Monday 4th December and enclose cash/cheque for £9.40 made payable to St Aldhelm’s Primary School.
I am aware that:
(a) except for visits abroad, insurance arrangements are that the Authority only provides cover
against proven negligence by the Authority and its employees.
(b) I should consider making my own insurance arrangements for personal accident cover for
my son/daughter.
