Visits - London Residential Trip, 24th - 26th June 2007

Anybody who took part in this trip is unlikely to forget it! The whole trip had been planned with military precision, to ensure that Year Six got the most out of their three days in the capital. We were all looking forward to an exciting time away, visiting galleries, museums and theatres, as well as fitting in a spot of sight-seeing.

I know that all the staff and children who went to London had a fantastic time, notwithstanding the gastroenteritis that befell some of us towards the end [this hasn't put us off future trips!]
I was planning on this being a truly memorable experience for the children… and it was, although not fully in the way that I had intended.

I hope you enjoy reading the children's comments and looking at some of the photographs.

Year Six Residential July 2007 The London Experience

My favourite parts of the trip, to London, would have to be:

When we went to see STOMP and the Lion king, at the theatre.
I also loved going to both of the Tate art galleries, and listening to the stories behind the paintings.
Last of all, when we went to the park, I thought that the statue of queen Victoria's husband was magnificent!

London was a great experience, but for me the winner was definitely going on the tube. For I'd never been on it before, and it made me get a funny feeling in my stomach, which I absolutely loved. Although I had to look after a friend for some of the time, I still enjoyed it.

My favourite part of London was when we went to the theatre to watch Lion king, because it was really AMAZING how they made the animal costumes , and the actors were really good at singing.
The most memorable thing was at the Tate Britain Gallery. When we were looking at a piece of art, the art piece was a bean tin, all of a sudden a long thing came up. It looked like a sausage, it was so funny! I couldn't stop laughing.
The weirdest part was the last day, because half of the class was sick …So that meant we couldn't go to the history museum and the science museum, but it didn't matter because we got to go to the park and that was fun…then we had lunch.

When we went to London I found travelling on the underground exciting
because we always had to find the most spacious carriage to fit 26 children into.
Although that was exciting the thing that I most enjoyed was listening in on two debates; One in the House of Commons, the other in the House of Lords. It was the thought of getting first hand information. It was a shame we had to come home early-illness- but I think it was for the best!

In London we went to two theatres; Stomp and The Lion King. My favourite theatre was Stomp because the performers involved the audience by clapping a rhythm that we would copy. The Lion King was really good because of the costumes; my favourite costume was of a giraffe, it had one person inside on stilts, I think it would take a long time to master walking on them.

I thought Lion King was amazing and I loved it because the outfits were stunning! Also I liked STOMP, the little man was really funny; the way they played the instruments and how they played them was unbelievable. (It ROCKED)!
I liked my room in Baden Powell House because I got to rest my legs after a long day of walking- or just be lazy and read my comic.

I really enjoyed London but the last day wasn't wonderful because a bug started up; Gastroenteritis, which caused mayhem throughout most of us and all 3 adults, causing Mr. Whitewick to be called in the early hours of the morning (4 O'clock) to be told that all 3 members of staff and around 5 children were sick with Gastroenteritis. Mr Sluman came on a walk with us and felt much better, leaving 2 members of staff ill.
When we weren't doing anything but relaxing, all we did was to scoff sweets, talk, read comics and books and go into other dormies!!

Year Six from St.Aldhelm's school went to London on Tuesday 26th June for a three day trip including a free taster of illness on the side! The third day fell apart as most pupils from our class of 26 fell ill with a disease called Gastroenteritis which means that there is a inflammation of the stomach and the intestines, it is usually a result of bacterial or viral infection. Because of this the remaining class went out for a walk around London with Mr Whitewick our head teacher who was called at 4:00 in the morning by 3 sick members of staff to come to London.

We did many exciting things in London including going to two theatre productions the first was called Stomp and is about a gang of people making music out of rubbish and house hold items. The second show was the Lion King a Disney production was my favourite as it was colourful and active.

The most exciting part of the trip was when we went to the House's of Parliament. The food at the American diner was great - and it came very quickly.

I enjoyed London , but the best part was going to the theatre to see 'Stomp' and 'The Lion King'. Stomp had interesting sounds made by normal materials that aren't normally used to make sounds and they didn't use any instruments - so it was a musical production but in a fun way). The Lion King had very beautiful and colourful costumes which I enjoyed looking at. We weren't back from both theatres until after 10 and later. Both theatres were very different but very effective and enjoyable.

My highlights for London are both the shows - they were amazing. Apart from being sick, the Houses of Parliament were one of the sights that you have to remember and record(inside).

My experience in London was great; the best bit would have to be our trip to the theatre, where we saw the Lion King. Another great first time experience would be travelling round London on the tube. London was a great experience for me, apart from me
and others being sick, and I hope it was for others .

My favourite part of the trip was going to the theatre to watch Lion King because half way through the play ASHLEY fell asleep. So near the end I had to wake him up which took me about ten minutes. My most memorable part of London was on the last day when everyone was ill with gastienteritus. The most fun part of going to London was going to Tate Britain because when we went into this historical part and in this cabinet there was a can of baked beans and after a couple of seconds a sausage popped out.

Day 1
Spending 3 hours on the bus was really draining, therefore by the time we got to Baden Powell house to have our lunch and put our bags away we were all tired. After we had finished we headed off to the under ground. It was really exiting and I forgot all about being tired! As soon as we emerged, we were surrounded by massive buildings and towering Big Ben.
Soon we were making our way through the spinning doors into the Houses of Parliament; I began looking at all the passers bys smart outfits and I began the feel very shabby! In the after noon we went to watch to STOMP! This was very loud but very good!

Day 2
By day two a few of us were feeling a bit ill, luckily we had planned to visit the Tate modern and the Tate Britain so it was quite a relaxed day… or so we thought! Later by surprise Mrs K brought us to see the Lion King - it was fab!!!

Although it was really hard to choose, my favourite part of the London trip was going to see the Lion King, as it was really bright and colourful and I could sing along to some of the songs!

All of Year 6 went on a trip to London from the 26th of June and the 28th . My favourite part was the two theatre productions, one was Stomp, a gang of men and women banging rubbish to create music. The second was the Lion King, the Disney story but in theatre. The bad thing was me, Joe, Amy, Katy and many others caught a virus, making us sick.

We went to London for three days with our whole class and three teachers. We went to see two theatre shows, the Lion King and Stomp. The Lion King was fantastic because the costumes were really brilliant; my favourite costumes were the giraffe and the leopard ones. Stomp was also good because it was a bit different than I thought; it was all about people using equipment like brooms and buckets to make sound. We also went to this diner which was called Ed's diner which was really nice food. We stayed in a hostel which was called Baden Powell House. We went to the Houses of parliament to see David Heath and to look round the Houses of Lords and Commons. So apart from the last day, we had a great time. By Amy

Last week class six went on a residential trip to London. The best experience for me was having to go on the tube; the funny thing was that after two times on the underground, we all found out that looking at the ground helped not being dizzy! Also both the theatre productions were brilliant, Lion King and Stomp. By Chloe
