Outline for Teaching & Learning in French

Reception, Year 1 & Year 2
In these classes we will primarily concentrate on confidence building and vocabulary building. This will be done through the use of songs, games, stories and video.

Year 3
Year 3 will be used as a Bridging Year. The children will begin to see the written word. They will continue to build on and expand what they have learned in Key Stage 1 with the introduction of sentence structure. Again this will be done through the use of songs, games, video and an increasing use of ICT with the introduction of some role-play.

Year 4
In Year 4 the children will continue to look at sentence structure using more questioning and conversational skills through an increased use of role play. They will be introduced to simple grammar rules.

Years 5 & 6
In Years 5 & 6 we will begin looking at and reading simple passages concentrating on pronunciation and sound patterns. The children will begin writing simple passages about themselves, their likes and dislikes.
