From the Headteacher

Star Work:   Congratulations to Ellis Young who is our sole Star Worker this week.   His work is on display in pride of place in the central corridor.

Brass Players:   My congratulations also to the brass players from Years 3, 4 and 5 who played with such distinction at the Mid Somerset Music Spectacular last week.   To see and hear all three year groups on the stage at the same time was truly fantastic.

Year Six Residential trip to London:   The Year Six visit to London ended yesterday with sickness among children and staff.   Until that time it was a great success with visits to the Houses of Parliament to meet David Heath MP and both Tate Galleries.   The children also enjoyed two visits to the theatre: to see ‘Stomp’ and ‘The Lion King’.   I spent the day with the trip on Wednesday and was impressed with the way all children conducted themselves.   On Thursday our emergency procedures were put to the test when I received a telephone call in the early hours to alert me to the fact that some children and all three members of staff were ill.   I was in London by breakfast time yesterday and with slight changes to the schedule we were able to spend most of the day in and around South Kensington before returning to school slightly early.   My thanks to Mrs Kaunhoven, Miss Curtis and Mr Sluman for giving up their time to make the trip happen.   They may not think so as they recover at home today but the trip was enjoyed by all.

Headteacher Interviews:   Five candidates for the headship of St. Aldhelm’s will be in school on Monday and Tuesday for interviews.   Governors and Advisers from the County Council will also be in school.   Children will be able to meet all candidates during the two days.   We will inform you of the outcome during next week and on the next newsletter.

Swiss Students:   We are pleased to have Meret Wintsch, Michelle Rebsamen and Luisa Silvestri with us for a short period of teacher training.

Infant Sports Day is scheduled for next Friday morning, starting at 9.30am.   Obviously this event relies on good weather so a decision to postpone may be made first thing in the morning.   Please note that this year, for the first time, we are splitting the events for Juniors and Infants.   This is to reduce the amount of sitting and waiting for children.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who stewarded for Glastonbury Festival this year.   You all raised approximately £4.500 for the school, which is absolutely fantastic.   We will inform you as to where the money will benefit the school in due course.   A special thank you to Dawn Meen for organising the stewarding as she ensured we had two teams, without Dawn this would not have been possible.   We hope to raise more money at the school fete on the 15th July so please come forward to help as this is always limited.   We need help from 10am for about an hour to set up tables, hang up the bunting etc. from 2 to 4pm to work a “shift” so that everyone can enjoy the fete and from 4pm for about an hour to clear up.   We also need to borrow some Gazebo’s.   If you can only spare an hour, this would be appreciated, please let the office know.   We need donations of:
