From the Headteacher:

Star Work:   Congratulations to our Star Workers of this week: Ashleigh Horton, Charlotte Johns, Jay Clacee-Rowe, Lizzie May and Elaine Fry.   Their work is on display in pride of place on our Star Work board.

Mrs Matthews:   I completely forgot last week to pass on news many of you have been waiting for… Mrs Matthews had a baby girl, Layla, born on Good Friday.   I know that you too will be really pleased for Mr. And Mrs Matthews at this happy event.

Tag Rugby:   Our team of Year Six tag rugby players represented the school at a tournament in Frome this week and were placed third in their group of five.  Congratulations to Ollie Birt, Ashley Thick, Charlotte Burr, Rebecca Carver, Luke Harris, Jack Bloss Robert Edwards and Matthew Walters.    Thanks to Mr. Birt for the coaching advice from the sidelines.

Marathon Afternoon:   I very much enjoyed the Marathon event last week.   All children participated with such enthusiasm and we had a lot of fun.   In the end, because so many children kept going, we ran the equivalent of 8.7 marathons!   Well done to everyone.   Thank you to the PTA members who served drinks and thank you to everyone who turned out to support our runners.   Details of the amount raised will follow in due course.   You can see photographs of the event in the ‘projects’ section of www.staldhelms.co.uk

Marathon 2:   Congratulations to Mr Harris, father of Katelyn, for completing the London Marathon in the amazing time of 3 hrs 30mins and for inspiring us to hold our own event last week.   Thank you to everyone who has, or has agreed to, sponsor him.   We shall be happy to collect money at the office.

Bikes, Scoooters, Skateboards:   Please do not allow your children to ride bikes or use scooters and skateboards on the school site at the end of the day.   This is a very busy time and the playground is crowded.   For safety reasons it is necessary for children to walk bikes etc. until clear of the school site.

Election Day:   The Village Hall annexe will be used as a Polling Station on Thursday next week.   This requires extra security arrangements by the school so please note that no child should be left unaccompanied on the site before 8.45am.   Piano and guitar players with early lessons will be unaffected although guitar lessons will take place in the library.

HOW:   The HOW group and Year 3 have set up a recycling centre to reduce the amount of landfill waste we produce.   The centre is based in the Year 3 classroom and is mainly for school use, however you can recycle your old mobile phones and printer cartridges from home.   We can raise money for charity by recycling these items.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA):   Congratulations to all the children for taking part in the marathon.   Please could all sponsorship money be forwarded to the school office by Friday 4th May.

Date for the diary:   There will be a school market on Friday 11th May.   It is the responsibility of Year 2 to provide cakes, sweets, veg. etc. for this market.   Thank you for your support.

The lost property box is again overflowing could you please ask your children to check for any of their lost items as the box will be cleared once again next week and all unclaimed /unamed items disposed of.
