From the Headteacher

I hope your Easter Break was a good one.   It is good to see the children back with us.   I hope they are ready for the term ahead, which promises to be full of activity and fun.

Star Work:      Congratulations to our first Star Workers of Term Five: William Mechen, Jack Knapp, Keeley Herring, Riley Gogan, Rowena Marshall, Michael Hill, Mason Futcher, George Hughes, Cody Mason and Lee Harris.   Their work is on display in the central part of the school where everyone can see it.

Rhema Theatre performed to our children yesterday afternoon.   This theatre company has become a firm favourite with our pupils.   They have performed several times over the last few years providing a high class theatre experience to the children on each occasion.

Attendance Certificates will be given out next week to the 24 pupils who attended school everyday of Terms 3 and 4 (January to Easter).   This is a wonderful thing to report especially as this is the period when children suffer the most illness.   My congratulations to all concerned.

Lateness:   Unfortunately, the number of children arriving late has grown during the same period.   Parents should be aware that our registers are scrutinised for lateness in the same way as they are for absence and I am keen to see the school day start well for all learners.

Holiday Requests:   I have been surprised by the large number of holiday requests I received in the lead up to the Easter Holidays.   Please remember that holiday leave for children will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances.   The government and the county council do not accept that parental work schedules are sufficient reason to be judged ‘exceptional’.   A majority of requests are, therefore, turned down.

Wake Up, Shake Up:   Our early morning exercise programme is back on a voluntary basis.   Please encourage your children to take part as we believe exercise is an important part of the preparation for learning.   We start at 8.50 so that we are ready to start the school day prompt at 8.57.

Marathon Afternoon:   This afternoon promises to be a fun and exciting one as we (collectively) run a marathon.   Mr. Anderton has organised a course for us so that we can record the distance we achieve as a school.   Expect news of the final result along with the amount raised in a future newsletter.

Good luck to Mr Harris, father of Katelyn, as he runs the London Marathon on Sunday.   It isn’t too late to sponsor him.   You can sign up at the office.

www.staldhelms.co.uk provides information on our pupils at work.   Recent additions to the site include a page about Science Wall and our work on Fair Trade.
