From the Headteacher:

Star Work:   Congratulations to our star workers of this week:   Georgiana Glasspool, Keeley Herring, Sydney Lock, Imogen Crouch, Tommy Mechen, Molly Barton, Ben Carroll, Charlie Knapp, Robert Holmes, Rebecca Carver, Hayley Carver, Alice Webb and Chloe Mott.   Their work is on display in pride of place on our Star Work board.

Children’s Parliament:   Congratulations to our team of Rebecca Carver, Hayley Carver, Alice Webb and Chloe Mott who represented us at the 2007 Children’s Parliament at Shire Hall in Taunton.   They spoke on the steps taken by our pupils to become environmentally friendly in front of pupils from 20 other primary schools and a panel of judges.   The best news is that they won!   They returned to school last week with the Children’s Parliament cup!

Cross-Country:   Congratulations to our cross country runners who were invited to take part in the event at Montacute House on Tuesday.    Ella Rose Bazely Jackson, Rebecca Carver, Amy Reakes, Hayley Carver, Simone Young and Matthew Walters all represented Mendip in the County Championships.   Ella Rose finished 3rd in the lower school girls event and Rebecca Carver came 1st in the Upper School girls.

Guitar Lessons:   Paul Sweet, our guitar teacher, has more time to offer our school so we are able to take on more pupils.   If you would like your child to start lessons next term let us know at the office as soon as possible after the Easter break.

Marathon:   We shall be celebrating (and encouraging) parent, Mr Harris and his involvement in the London Marathon by holding our own version on Friday 20th April (the first week back after Easter).   In our case we shall be sharing out the pain by splitting up the 26 miles between all the pupils.   Details will be sent out on our return to school but please help your child collect sponsorship and be prepared to come and support at our marathon event which starts at 2.30pm (instead of a usual Friday assembly).

International Tuck Shop this week made a profit of £5.55.   This will be added to our donations for our adopted charity this year, CLIC.

Farm Safety Poster Competition:   We have had several successes in this year’s Bath and West Show Farm Safety Competition.   Congratulations to Freya Thorner 1st Michael Hill 4th and Ellie Pitman – Highly Commended.    Thanks to everyone who entered because this year we came second in the school competition as well!   Ms Bishop organised our involvement in this project so a big thank you to her as well.

Easter Card Competition:    Thank you to all children who entered the PTA Easter card competition.   I am due to announce the winners in assembly today so will not record them here.   Thanks too to Mrs Marshall who judged the competition for us.

Dinner Money:   A reminder to parents that school lunches are now £1.75 per day from next term.   All children should bring home a menu this afternoon, this can also be found on the St. Aldhelm’s website.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA):   Your child should have brought home a School Link catalogue.   All titles in this catalogue are offered at amazing prices and represent fantastic value – with up to 85% off the publisher’s price.   Our school received 10% commission on all book orders placed.   If you would like to order from this School Link catalogue please complete the order form and return it to the school office by: TUESDAY 17th APRIL.   ALL CHEQUES TO BE MADE PAYABLE TO: THE BOOK PEOPLE LTD. Sorry no cash accepted.   You do not need to fill in the school link number this will be done upon receipt of your order by a PTA representative.

The next PTA meeting will be on FRIDAY 27th APRIL at 2.00pm.   All welcome.

The Plant Fayre on Sunday was again another success raising £198.70.   Many thanks to Helen, Katie, Lucie, Sue, Wendy, Janet, Ruth and Michelle for giving up their Sunday and a big thank you to those of you who baked some quite delicious cakes and biscuits!   Pennard Plants said the two events went well for them also and will work with us again next year.

The Easter Bingo on Friday raised £189.00.   Thank you to Dawn, Vicky and Wendy for organising and setting up and thank you to everyone who helped tidy up at the end.

Thank you to all the children who completed their Mother’s Day task sheet.   £90.00 was raised and I am sure, from reading the tasks, that the children did some wonderful things for their mums.   “Massaging Mummy, making a Sunday picnic, pulling off wallpaper” were just a few.   Hope all you Mum’s felt special.

Glastonbury update:   We have definitely been accepted to provide one team of stewards for this year’s festival and a meeting will be arranged after Easter.   Following the granting of the licence for the festival this wee we are waiting to hear if we have been accepted to provide a second team of 20.
