From the Headteacher:
Star Work: Congratulations to our Star Workers this week: Andrew Dummer, Ashleigh Billing, Ollie James, Emily Vaughan-Williams, Ashley Thick, Ashleigh Horton and Jessica Walton. Their work is on display in the central corridor, in pride of place.
Heating Failure: My apologies for the disruption inevitably caused to your routine by the closure on Monday morning. It was clear that, given the failure of the system and the fact that it was such a cold day, we would be unable to heat the classrooms to the minimum legal temperature. I had no option but to close the school to pupils. Heat was finally restored at 2.15pm. On this occasion I believe the fault was due to a blocked filter although the larger problem of how we get the relevant company to conduct a thorough overhaul of the system remains. I have made a strong case to the County Council for support so that rather than replacing individual parts the whole system is checked. Several steps in this direction have been taken this week. This issue will be discussed at the governors’ meeting on Monday and followed up at County Hall.
Spelling Meeting: Mrs Kaunhoven presented information on our approach to spelling at a very useful parents meeting yesterday evening. The questions from parents have helped us understand what information you would find most useful and you can expect to see advice and further ideas on www.staldhelms.co.uk soon.
Police: Our pupils were very excited to see two police cars on site at the end of school on Wednesday. The activity was not school related – much to the disappointment of many of our pupils.
Swiss Students: Once again we shall be hosting students from
a teacher training college in
Church Service: Years One and Six are leading our service in Church on Tuesday at 9.30am. Parents are welcome to join us.
