From
the Headteacher:
Star Work: Congratulations to our Star
Workers of this week Ché James, Freya Thorner, Michael Maidment,
Georgia Hill, Joseph Fone, Uther Salter and Cameron Bazely-Jackson.
Walk to School: 116 children
walked to school from Chelynch on Wednesday morning. The HOW committee was delighted with this
turn out. We wanted to use an
alternative route to the one we used last time as well as highlight the fact
that children come to our school from different directions. In the summer we aim to lead a walk to
school from Shepton and Chelynch at the same time. You might like to know that each time we do
a Walk to School we raise the issues with Mendip Council or Somerset County
Council. Last time we asked Mendip to
consider changing the stiles to kissing gates on the route we used. This is something they are looking
into. This time we are going to raise
the issue of a safe walking route from Chelynch with the relevant people. Thank you to the many parents who took part,
making it possible to ensure the safety of the children.
Parent-Teacher Consultations take place next week for all classes except
Year Two. You should have received a
letter about this. You can sign up in
the usual way; by using the clipboards in the entrance or by telephoning the
school office. A copy of the letter can
be found at www.staldhelms.co.uk
Concert: We are holding a short concert
on Thursday morning at 10.00am for our guitar, piano and recorder players to
entertain their guests and demonstrate their progress at their
instruments. The concert starts at
10.00am.
Our Cross Country runners are back in action next Tuesday for the
final event of this season. We are expecting
great things of them!
Mrs Matthews leaves us today to start her maternity leave, the
start of a new adventure for her and her husband. We are both really pleased for her and
looking forward to her return to us. It
is a mark of her commitment and professionalism that she has worked extra hard
in the last few months to make sure the transition is smooth for her class and
that her other duties are covered. We
shall miss her but we intend to keep you fully informed of happy developments.

their children’s hair as we have an outbreak of headlice at the school – thank
you.

Green Curry with rice and Thai light orange-blossom oranges. The cost of the meal will be
£1.70.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA): Tonight, Friday 9th March is Quiz
Night as detailed in last week’s newsletter.
Please come along for a fun night out to commence at 8.00pm, doors open
at 7.30pm. (£2.00 per person). Hope to
see you there.
Mothering Sunday: Mothering
Sunday this year falls on 18th March and in anticipation of that special
day we would like to encourage your children to spend next week helping
out. In the book bag, you should find a
‘Task Week’ chart. Simply set your
child(ren) a task to do each day e.g. make the bed and ‘pay’ for their services
by sticking a coin on the chart. Task Week
will run from Monday 12th to Sunday 18th March. Please return the completed charts the
following week. Best of luck!
Easter Competition for Children: We have decided this year that the Easter
Competition for the children would be for them to design an Easter Card. The children can choose whatever they wish
for their design on an A4 sheet folded in two to produce an A5 front
cover. We hope the children enjoy this
challenge and we look forward to judging them on Thursday 29th
March.
Friday Market – March 16th:
The next market coming up is on the 16th March. The year group responsible is Year 1. Would all children in Year 1 kindly provide
cakes, biscuits or garden produce for the market and leave them at reception in
the morning. Thank you for your very
kind contributions.
Future Fundraising – and what has currently been achieved. We had an extremely successful year of fundraising last year, I hope you will all agree when you look around the school. A lot of money earned contributed towards school equipment which equated to £7K alone. £4K was contributed to the all weather surfacing and £3K for the Soundfield Systems which are successfully being used by all teachers in each classroom. We campaigned successfully for a new classroom and contributed £4K towards the purchase of classroom furniture, and £2,500 of new audio equipment. Each Academic Year we also pledge £1K towards the ‘Arts’. Our bank balance now currently stands at £600 so we hope to increase on this as we continue to fundraise this year. In order to raise money for new playground equipment and ActionTrack we need support both financially and physically from parents, family and friends.
