Star Work: Congratulations to the children whose work appears on our Star Work board this week Jack Knapp, Francis Wood-Johnson, Alice Lintern, Hannah McCann, Georgina Biggs, Hannah Harris, Michael Hill and Tobias Crouch.
Heating: We have experienced further problems with the heating system this week although each time the system cut out we were able to restart it. New parts were fitted on Thursday but the maintenance company has yet to replace the faulty gauge. Mr Beck, our Caretaker, is keeping a careful eye on oil supply levels for us but you need to be aware that we are continuing to experience some level of difficulty.
Snow and Emergency Closure: The recent weather forecasts have suggested that snow is on the way. I think a reminder of our procedures is in order. School will only close if absolutely necessary. If sufficient members of staff are able to reach work then school will open. It is because I need to know whether I can safely supervise children that I ask parents not to telephone school before 8.30am. This keeps the ‘phone lines open for members of staff to let us know whether they can make it to Doulting. If a decision to close is made, local radio stations will be informed. A decision will be made by 8.30am. The radio station frequencies are:
Somerset Sound 1566 MHz
Orchard FM 102.6 FM
If you are concerned about the conditions where you live either delay leaving for school or decide for yourself whether it is safe to travel.
Should school need to close during the day we shall follow the procedures we used during our recent heating failure and telephone the contact numbers we hold. Children will be kept safe and under supervision until they can be collected.
Mathematics Problem Solving Day: Yesterday we held a problem solving day in Mathematics across the school. We gathered together at the end to show how mathematics had been used in a variety of subjects and contexts. Expect to see photos on www.staldhelms.co.uk soon.
Cross Country: Two weeks ago our team of cross country
runners competed at
Start of the Day: A reminder that we provide supervision from 8.50
each morning. On dry days this means
that teachers are on the playground from this time. On wet days children can go straight into
classrooms but not before 8.50.
