NEWSLETTER 18      06/07      26.01.07

From the Headteacher

Star Work:   Congratulations to our Star Workers of this week whose work is on display in pride of place in the centre of the school.    Hannah McCann, Charlotte Burr, Molly Patterson, Charlotte Fillis, Bradley Ryder, Jade Payne and Joshua Wilson.   Congratulations (and apologies) also to Chloé Jenkins who was left off last week’s newsletter despite being a Star Worker!

Active Mark:    I am delighted to tell you that our school has been awarded the Active Mark from the government in recognition of our work to promote physical activity in PE lessons and beyond.   Mrs Matthews led our work in this area so a big ‘thank you’ to her.

Coats:   During the very cold weather we are insisting that all children wear coats at play and lunchtimes.   Please make sure your child has a coat in school.

Story tree:   I hope your children have told you about the very exciting Caribbean storyteller and musician who visited school this week.   There will be photos on the website soon and each child will eventually receive a CD of their own (collective) singing for you to listen to at home!   Mrs Stallard organised this activity for us.   Thank you to her.

International Meal:   76 children experienced the Jamaican meal cooked for us by Mrs Rowsell and Mrs Webb on Wednesday.   These meals are a very good way for our children to try something new and broaden their horizons!   Look out for photos in the International section of our website soon!

Local artist Fiona Robson worked with our Year Six pupils on a wire sculpture workshop this week.   Their sculptures are on display in the central corridor and library with photographs on the website in the Projects section soon.

Newsletter:    Communication between home and school is very important to us.   This newsletter is available on paper, by email and by visiting www.staldhelms.co.uk

If you know anyone who needs this newsletter in a large format or on tape please let us know at the office.

Lewis Ruby is making progress but remains in hospital.   A parent from Year 3 has had the idea of raising money to buy a toy of some type for him to have in hospital and to help with his brain/hand/eye co-ordination.   A letter has been sent to parents of all children in Year 3 but if any other parent would like to donate please feel free to do so.   We should be pleased to take donations at the Office.
