From the Headteacher:

Star Work:   Congratulations to this week’s star workers all of whom have work on display in pride of place in the central area of the school: Felicity Day; Cameron Allen; Jessica Rowe; Tiegan Mathot-Sankey and Ben Rossiter.

European Day of Languages:   It was wonderful to see the children with labels in a foreign language this week.   We have very creative pupils.   I was amazed by the number of different languages on display and the different items of clothing and number of parts of the body that were labelled.   Thank you for the support you offered on this day.

Our Year Five and Year Four brass players and our Music Technologists were filmed yesterday as part of a promotional video for Somerset Music.   We hope to have a copy of the finished film when it is available but I am pleased that St. Aldhelm’s pupils were chosen to participate.

Website:   Our website is in need of updating and we have a meeting scheduled to discuss our requirements next week.   If you have any ideas of what you would like to see included, please let me know before Thursday.   We hope the new improved version will be on line in a couple of weeks’ time.   Go to www.staldhelms.co.uk to see what we currently have on the site.

SATs results:   Parents of pupils in Y3 will have seen our Key Stage One results.   They were sent out with the annual school report.   Key Stage Two SATs results were sent to last year’s Y6 parents with the report, also.   It has occurred to the governors that other parents will not have seen these and, now that an annual meeting for parents from the governors is no longer needed, parents may miss out on information they require.   We are not sending the results out to every family (to be environmentally friendly) but we do want all those who want them to receive copies.   Therefore, please let us know at the office if you would like copies of either or both sets of results.

School Council Elections:   Elections were held in classes today to find the new School Councillors.   Voting systems became more sophisticated as the pupils got older. Reception Councillors will be appointed (as in the House of Lords!).   The new councillors will be on next week’s newsletter.

Parent Governor Elections:   As returning officer for the election of three parent governors I declare that the number of votes cast for each candidate was:

                        Stuart Anderton                     122

                        Betty Birt                                 88

                        Justin Thorner                         66

                        Michelle Williams                    94

Mr Anderton, Mrs Birt and Mrs Williams are duly elected to serve as parent governors for a 4 year term.

Work Experience:   Steven Dehmel and Tom Thick from Whitstone have been working with us all week as part of their work experience programme.   Their help in our PE lessons has been much appreciated.

Headlice:   Please check your child’s hair on a regular basis and treat if necessary as this is the only way we can keep headlice out of school.

End of the Day:   It is very important that we know that pupils have been collected safely by the right person.   This is very difficult when children use this as a play time.   We have told everyone, therefore, that they must go to their parents as soon as you have arrived and not play in the new pencil area or on the hills.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA):  Friday markets take place after the Friday assembly.   Each class takes it in turns to be responsible – baking cakes, biscuits, sweets or bringing plants, eggs….to sell.   The PTA usually make approximately £40 to £50 at each market.

                                    Year 4:                                    October 13th

                                    Year 5:                                    November 17th

Year 6 and Reception            January 19th

                                    Year 1                                     March 16th

                                    Year 2                                     May 11th

                                    Year 3                                     July 6th
