From The Headteacher

Welcome to our new Year 3 pupil, Lewis Ruby.   Lewis and his family have moved into our area and I hope this is the start of a happy relationship between school and home.

Star Work:   Congratulations to William Lintern who has had his work on display all week.   As our library has been in use as an art exhibition space this week when new furniture arrived it was placed in the corridor.   Therefore, we shall keep William’s work on display for a further week so that it really can be appreciated.

Song for Peace:   Our pupils sang a song for peace yesterday called ‘No Wars Will Stop Us Singing’ it was especially written for school children to sing on 21st September, a day nominated as ‘Peace One Day’.   I was very impressed by the way in which our children sang.   Thanks to Mrs Pearson for organising this for us.

Bicycles, scooters, roller blades:   There has been an increase in the number of children zooming around at the end of the school day.   Not all of them our pupils!   It is dangerous, especially for our younger children, to have speeding bikes or scooters on the playground at the busiest time of day.   Please do not allow your child to ride around the site.

School Council elections will be held in all classes except Reception class next Thursday.   The names of the new councillors will be included in next week’s newsletter.

Parent Governor:   An election is underway to elect three parent governors.   We have four candidates so somebody will be unsuccessful but it is wonderful to report that we have people who are prepared to serve in this capacity.   You should have received a ballot paper for each parent/carer eligible to vote.   The result will be posted near the office next Friday and included in the next newsletter.

European Day of Languages:   We are celebrating this day on Tuesday.   Children do not need to wear uniform on this day but instead should have labels in a foreign language naming either body parts or clothes or both.   To reduce stress levels all round, teachers are prepared with labels in French.   If your child needs help in this way please get labels before Tuesday morning.

Tesco Vouchers:   We are again taking part in the Tesco Sport for Schools 2006 scheme.   Would you kindly help us by collecting the vouchers whenever you buy your shopping or petrol at Tesco.  We shall be able to exchange the vouchers for sports equipment or coaching sessions.  There is a collection box situated in the school library.

Reminder fom Mrs Rowsell:   Next Wednesday there will be the International Meal only with no other choices the cost of this being £1.25.   The cost of the school dinners is now £1.70 per day.

Spare clothes:   Could we please have any spare pants, knickers, socks etc. for use in school for those little accidents that sometimes occur.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA)   Next Friday 29th September there is a school disco – 6.00 – 7.30pm. £2.00 entrance.   Children under 5 need to be accompanied by an adult.   If you can help it would be really appreciated.

The Annual General Meeting will take place at 2.15pm in the school library.   Find out the plans for the year.   We require 25 people to attend.
