From the Headteacher

Wake Up Shake Up has resumed but this year we have placed it inside the school day as the first thing pupils do before they go to class.   As in the past, parents are welcome to join us for this but neither children nor teachers want spectators.   If you are not staying to join in please say goodbye to your child(ren) before “Wake Up, Shake Up” and leave them to exercise.

Governor Vacancies:   There are three vacancies for parent governor positions.   A letter requesting nominations was sent out this week.   Please return any nomination forms by the end of school on Monday.   If an election is needed I shall write to you next week.

European Day of Languages:   Each year we participate in this event to highlight the importance of learning a modern foreign language.   This year Tuesday 26th September is the nominated day and we would like the children to come to school in clothes other than school uniform with labels attached naming the parts of the body and/or the items of clothing.   Labels can be in any foreign language.   Teachers will give children further information and support where necessary.   I thought, however, that you would appreciate advance notice of this event.

PTA:   I hope you will get involved in our PTA (Friends of St. Aldhelms’s) during this year.   New faces are always welcome at the meetings and there is always lots to do at the many events that are organised.   You can see what a vital part the PTA plays in school life by looking at the new all weather surfacing and extra trim trail items installed during the summer.   All children benefit from the fund raising efforts.

Song for Peace:   All children will participate in a nationwide singing of ‘Song for Peace’ on Thursday.

Our exhibition of art work on the theme of ‘Home and Away’ mounted as part of Somerset Art week is ‘open’ in the library and small group room until 5.00pm each day.   Do feel free to visit.

Olivia North has been in school all week working as a Learning Support Assistant.   Olivia is a former St. Aldhelm’s pupil now at Whitstone in Year 11.   It has been good to have her back!

I am out of school on Monday attending a conference.   Mrs Stallard will be available in my absence.
