Star Work: Congratulations to our Star Workers of this week whose work is
on display in the centre of the school: Holly Stowell – Connolly, Molly
Patterson, Callum Thorner, Eve Clements, Rowan Davis, Che James, Kieran
Padfield and Simone Young.
Year Six have been on a residential trip this week at Lulworth Cove discovering the delights (and extremes) of English weather! I am grateful to Mr Knowles, Mrs Kaunhoven and Mr Horton for making the trip possible.
Mendip Mini-Olympics: We entered a team in this annual event at Millfield and won both the Small Schools shield and the Lower Schools (Year 3 and 4) championship. My congratulations to all involved.
Cycle Safety Training starts next week for 15 of our Year Six pupils.
Friday Assembly: Please note that next Friday’s assembly (14th July) will be the last one of this year at which it will be possible to distribute external certificates, medals and shields. The following week (21st July) we shall start at 2.30 with performances from our piano players.
Piano Lessons: There will be at least one lesson slot available from September to learn the piano with Mrs. Clarke. If you are interested in your child starting please ask for details at the school office.
A reminder that we are holding a meeting for parents after school on Tuesday in Year 5’s classroom to discuss our sex and relationship policy. This meeting is for all parents but will be of most immediate interest to parents of children in Years Four, Five and Six.
Car Park: I have received reports of careless parking in our car park which is causing me to be concerned for the safety of children. Parking on the zebra crossing and blocking the end of the zebra by parking badly are the new features. Please put children’s safety above your own convenience at all times in the car park.
The end of the year is fast approaching and we need to say ‘goodbye’ to our Year Six leavers in a fitting way. A church service will be held on Monday 24th July at 9.30am and the final assembly on Tuesday 25th July will start at 2.30pm
I am out of school on Monday at a planning meeting for next year with Mrs Kaunhoven and Mrs Stallard. Mr Knowles will be available in my absence.

Mini-Olympics: With temperatures in the high 20° we took our team of athletes to Millfield School on Tuesday and came away with several successes.
Tom Court, Kieran Young and Ellianne Elms all came
first in their events. Jack Savery
came second in one of his events and then we had four thirds from Simone
Young, Eve Clements, Tom Court and Rowan Davis.
We also gained a third in the Lower Girls’ Relay as well as a record breaking performance from Mason Young, Harry Knapp, Jack Savery and Tom Court in the Lower Boys’ Relay.
There were many other fine performances that all helped us come 3rd overall a great performance against the large schools in the area. Another piece of silverware was won by the Lower Juniors’ team who came 1st in their category.
Well done to all the competitors and a huge thanks to parents and friends who supported them in the heat and helped with transport.

Brass Band at School Fete: We are putting on a brass performance by the Year 3 and 4 children on Sunday afternoon at the school fête.
The performance will take place at 2.30 right at the start of the fête, so if your child would like to take part they will need to be ready with their instrument by 2.20.
From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s (PTA) We are planning a night out next Friday (14th July). Venue is likely to be the Poachers’ Pocket to meet at 7.30pm and eat at 8.00pm. The PTA raised £390.49 at Collett Park. The balloon race was a great success and we had a lot of fun! Thank you for all your support.
First prize went to Steve Goodland who received £50. Second prize went to Ryan Billing who received four tickets to Wookey Hole, and third prize went to Will Stevens who received four tickets to Brokers Wood Country Park. The ‘booby prize’ of a chocolate orange went to Claire Green as her balloon was found in Collett Park!!!
Don’t forget the Summer Fayre this Sunday – starting at 2.30pm. We still need help setting up – if you can join us at 9.30 that would be great.
