From the Headteacher:

Walk to School:   Thank you to everyone who took part in the Walk to School event on Wednesday.   We estimated that 130 children walked to school on this day with over 25 adults helping us out.   It was a good thing to be involved in not only because it reduced car journeys for a day but also because of the obvious health benefits.   As part of our travel plan we hope to repeat the exercise in the autumn with perhaps a walk across the fields using the public footpath.

The Giant Sleepover:   I slept in my office last Saturday evening, a first in my career!   I did this because of the PTA’s involvement in the Giant Sleepover.   The event was designed to support Childline, our adopted charity for this year as well as raise money for our PTA.   It was a hugely enjoyable event, the atmosphere was great, it was well organised and the community spirit on show was heartening.   A huge thank you to our PTA organisers for their hard work and in particular Liz Barton who co-ordinated everything.

Sports Day:   I apologise for getting the date wrong on last week’s newsletter.   We aim to run this event on Monday 26th June at 9.30am and welcome the support of parents.   We have a slightly different format this year.   I need to add the usual warning that the running of sports day is dependent on the weather.

Brass Project:   My congratulations to our Year Three and Year Four pupils who played at Strode Theatre on Tuesday evening as part of the Mid-Somerset Music Spectacular.   Our pupils played last (top of the bill!) and were wonderful.

Swiss Students:   We are joined next week by three students from a Swiss teacher training college.  Mr. Troesch, Mr Keller and Miss Bohnenblust will be with us for a two week period.

From the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s:

Fete – We need your help for the School Fete on Sunday 9th July.   If you can only spare one hour in the morning (9.30 – 10.30) to put up bunting, help with setting up tables etc. or to help during or after the fete please let the office know as soon as possible.   Without support from parents it will make it unfeasible to have any school stalls at the fete and therefore the school will not benefit from any funds raised.

Giant Sleepover – A huge thank you to all those committee members and parents who helped make the Giant Sleepover such a success.   We could not have asked for a more enjoyable weekend, even the weather was great.   This event raised £364  for the PTA funds which will go towards the all weather surfacing planned to be installed during the summer holidays and £75 was donated to Childline.

Keep collecting your jumble as Bag2school will be arriving on the 7th July.

International Meal:   The children’s favourite international meal Chinese will be cooked again on Wednesday 19th of July.

                                    Sweet and Sour Chicken

                                    Rice

                                    Spring Rolls

                                    Prawn Crackers

The cost will be £1. 60.
