From
the Headteacher:
Star
Work: Congratulations to our pupils who have Star Work on
display this week. Aaron Compton,
Wesley Saunders, Bradley Day, Cameron Bazley Jackson, Barnaby Bridges, Tiegan
Mathot-Sankey, Georgie Cullen, Kieran Young, Laura Pearson.
Design
Technology Day: On Wednesday the whole
school participated in a day of Design Technology activities to both
demonstrate their skills in this subject and to experience working in teams of
mixed ages. The resulting ‘products’,
all to do with Hugo and the World Cup were put on display in the hall at the
end of the day and looked fantastic.
Pam Bolton, Somerset’s DT Adviser worked with us on this but the
experience was the idea of Mr. Knowles who organised everything for us. Thank you to him for his hard work!
Congratulations
to Year Three who came second in the competition organised by
Bradford’s, Evercreech to design a garden.
Ms Bishop and a representative group received this good news at the presentation
ceremony on Wednesday and brought back a cup for us to display in school. Thank you to Ms Bishop and her class for
representing the school in this competition.
Year
Two
went off to Burnham on Sea on Monday for a trip to put their geographical
skills to use. Year Three
visited Montacute House as part of their study of the Tudors. Trips such as these add an essential
dimension to the children’s education and can only take place because of the
hard work of staff and parents. Thank
you to Mrs Pearson, Mrs Barnett, Mrs Knell, Mrs Meen and Ms Wills, Ms Bishop,
Ms Davis, Miss Holmes, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Holmes.
Collett
Park: Thank you to everyone who supported our
stall last Saturday at the Collett Park day.
Thanks, especially, to the parents who worked so hard to make the day
such a success for us.
Congratulations
to our Year Five footballers who played in a tournament this
week. The pupils played in two
teams. Our ‘B’ team played
exceptionally well and won two of their three matches, and our ‘A’ team
won! Well done to all who played and
thank you to them for representing our school.
Well
done to everyone who tried the Indian meal cooked for us by Mrs
Rowsell and Mrs Webb. About 20 more
meals than normal were eaten on this day.
Our
Year One swimmers went off to swim yesterday only to find that
the pool’s heating system had failed.
We hope normal service will resume next week.
Sports
Day: Don’t forget that our annual sports day
will be held on Monday 27th June at 9.30am, weather permitting.

D.T. Day: The children had a wonderful day on Wednesday when they designed
and made articles that Hugo could take with him if he were to go to the World
Cup.
They worked extremely hard all day and were able to
meet in the Hall to look at what every other group had achieved.
Some of the children brought in parents after school
to look and talk about their items.
Many thanks to the parents who were able to do this.
Thanks also to parents who sent in items to help
resource the day and to the staff and Pam Bolton, County’s D.T.Advisor, who
made the day so enjoyable and productive.

Football at Collett Park: It was fantastic weather for our football team to play in at
Collett Park last Saturday. The
football team consisted of children from year 3 to year 5 and they were children
that are normally trained by Terry Webb outside of school. The team played very well together,
especially considering they were often playing Year 6 children. Overall the team finished in fifth place
out of seven teams. I would like to
thank the following children for representing the school: Josh Barton, William
Lintern, Robert Edwards, Kieran Padfield, Rebecca Carver, Hayley Carver, Ben
Carroll, Matthew Walters, Peter Rolfe and Robert Holmes. I would also like to thank all of the
parents for their encouragement and continued support.
Mini World Cup: Two teams of Year 5 Children were invited to play in a mini
world cup tournament at Whitstone on Tuesday afternoon. The children battled through the rain to
play some excellent football, resulting in our A team winning the
whole tournament. As a result of their
great play they have also won some new goals for the school. Big congratulations go to both our teams
for representing the school.
A team: Charlotte
Burr, Rebecca Carver, Ollie Birt, Matthew Walters, Jake Robertson, William
Lintern, Ashley Thick and Robert Edwards.
B team: Chloe
Mott, Hayley Carver, Harrison Bean, James Pearson, Joe Malcolmson, Luke Harris
and Peter Rolfe.
