From the Headteacher:
Star Work: Congratulations to our Star Workers of this week: Mason Futcher, Jack Robson, Freya Thorner, Kieran Young, Ellianne Elms, John Moulton and Luke Webb.
Congratulations to Michael Hill who won first place in the Bath and West Farm Safety competition in his age group. I had an enjoyable day at the show and was able to see him receive his prize at a presentation in the safety zone. Well done Michael!
Bradford’s Schools Competition: Our Year Three pupils entered a competition to design a garden sponsored by Bradford’s of Evercreech and on Wednesday Ms Bishop and a representative group will be attending the presentation ceremony to see which school has won (members of the public were asked to vote for their favourite). Fingers crossed for Year Three and thanks to them for representing our school in this competition.
The term ahead promises to be both busy and exciting. If the weather stays dry we should be able to proceed with several of our planned outside activities. Sports Day is one of these! We shall be holding this event on Monday 26th June at 9.30. The decision to holds sports day in the morning was taken on safety grounds but also because, should we need to postpone, the decision can be quickly made. As in previous years, if the event does not go ahead on the scheduled day, a day later the same week will be found.
Congratulations to all children who dressed up on Tuesday for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Nearly the whole school came dressed as a character and the party under the shade of the trees was great fun. I hope you saw the photo in this week’s Shepton Journal. Thank you to Mrs Brown for organising this and thank you to our PTA for providing and serving ice creams.
Wednesday 21st June is ‘Walk to School’ day in Somerset and we would like to participate. In previous years we have walked children up from Tesco car park in Shepton and we hope to do the same again. Details will be included in next week’s newsletter.
Mrs Rowsell provided free Indian snacks this week to give children an idea of what the International meal will be like next week. I hope your child will be trying out an Indian meal on Wednesday.
Swiss students arrive at the end of June for a two week period. Due to a change of circumstances we now need another host family for a young man aged 18 or 19. If you can help please let us know at the office as soon as possible. There is a payment from the Swiss college for hosting the student and their English is of a high standard.

Website: The school’s website is in full use and receives very favourable comments from users. The designer of the site, Dave McMillan, designs sites for a wide range of customers ranging from schools to companies owning holiday homes.
If any parent is considering a website for their business etc. Dave is willing to make a donation of £50 to school for each website he produces. He can be contacted on dave.mcmillan@virgin.net
Old Boxes and Tubes: If you have any boxes (no larger than cereal boxes) and empty kitchen roll tubes etc. we would be very grateful for them by next Wednesday.

Giant Sleepover – GSO There are still three child spaces left for the GSO next week. This is going to be a fantastic event and probably the best in terms of parent and child participation as we have over 125 people camping out!! This is just one of the hundreds of simultaneous charity sleepovers around the UK raising money for ChildLine and for our own charity, the Friends of St. Aldhelm’s.
If you want to join us for a brilliant evening of entertainment and fun and help break two world records, let the office know asap if you want those last three spaces.
The Friday market before the half term holiday raised £19.35. Thank you to those who brought cakes and those who bought them and thanks as usual go to those who manned the stall.
Collett Park Day:
Thank you for all the donations of sweets and wine. We’ve had a great response for the balloon race too – THANK YOU.
We are still short of help – particularly for the afternoon – 1 – 4pm. If you can help for part of this time it would be really helpful.
