From the Headteacher:
Year Six Tate Galleries Visit: I had a very enjoyable day on Tuesday at the two Tate galleries in London in the company of Year Six. The workshop leaders complimented us on the quality of responses from our pupils and I have to say I was impressed by the thoughtful and articulate comments they made. Thank you to NADFAS for supporting this activity and to Mrs Kaunhoven and Ms Davis for supervising and making the trip possible.
Miss Curtis: I hope all devotees of the Noel Edmonds programme, ‘Deal or No Deal’, spotted Miss Curtis in the audience on Wednesday’s programme. It was easier to spot her at the end as she was one of the three people selected to open the box!
Brass Project: Our current Year Three pupils will continue with the brass project next year and the current Year Two children will have the opportunity to start learning from September. The project finishes for the current Year Four children at the end of the school year. We are still actively seeking ways for all the children who wish to continue, to do so. I had hoped to be able to write to parents this week with a proposal but we are still negotiating on certain aspects. Once we are clear about how we can proceed I shall write to parents of Year Four pupils.
School Calendar: I am sending a calendar for the next school year with this newsletter. It has the five INSET days marked on it to help you with your planning.
World Cup Day: All children took part in a very enjoyable football tournament this week to celebrate our link with our partner German School. The children in Germany put on their own tournament this week as well. Scores from all the matches were shared and the final result will be announced in today’s assembly.
A date for your diary: Wednesday 21st June is ‘Walk to School Wednesday’. We shall be walking to school from Shepton and possibly another venue as well. Details next term.
School closes to pupils for a mid term break at the end of school today. I hope it is an enjoyable week for you and your family. Term Six starts at 8.57am on Monday 5th June.

International News: Next month’s focus country is India. On Wednesday 7th June Mrs Rowsell will be providing
a free tuck sampling session of a range of Indian snacks. On Wednesday 14th June, she
will be offering an Indian menu of Vegetable Korma, Chicken Tikka, Rice and
Poppadum. For dessert, there will be
strawberry and cardamom yoghurt. The
meal is being offered at a subsidised cost of £1.30. Please place orders by Friday 9th June. Tess Kaunhoven
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party: Your child should have brought home an invitation to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Tuesday 6th June. We are holding this in school in the afternoon and would like all children to bring a drink and a snack. The friends of St. Aldhelm’s have kindly agreed to provide ice creams. It would be lovely to see all children dressed as a character from the story on that day, fingers crossed for sunshine
If anyone has spare bedding plants they would be very much appreciated as we need to replant the large tubs. Claris Brown
Tesco Vouchers: Many thanks to all who have donated vouchers to the school. We only require 3,000 more for a PC, search your cupboards, floorboards and handbags.
Year Two are making musical instruments in environmental week so donations of Margarine tubs, Pringles tubes etc. would be much appreciated.
