From
the Headteacher:
Star
Work: Congratulations to our Star Workers of this week Jack
Knapp and Charlotte Fillis. Their work
is on display in pride of place.
School
Photographer: Thank you for returning your
slips indicating your requirements for the visit of the new photographer on
Monday. If you intend to have a family
group photo which includes pre-school children please come to the school hall
at 8.30. The day will start with these
photographs. All others will be
arranged during lesson times. If you
have not yet returned a slip please do so by Monday morning. If in doubt we shall ensure each pupil has
an individual photograph taken.
Zambian
meal: This was not the most popular menu judging
by the numbers taking up the option this week but we do believe it is important
that children try new things and learn about other cultures. Thank you to all parents who encouraged
their children to try something different.
The next International meal will be an Indian one and will be offered to
pupils at a reduced cost. Details will
follow in due course.
Year
Six: We are aware that there is a clash of
events on 5th July with our Year Six pupils expected to be in two
places at once! We are adjusting the
Lulworth timetable so that pupils can attend the Induction days at Whitstone
and Wells Blue and will write to parents with the new schedule next week.
Next
School Year: I am afraid that I have
misled some parents who have asked about next year’s calendar. It seems the rules for setting INSET days
have changed (back) so that schools can now set the dates themselves from
within the school year. Therefore,
September 1st, which is a Friday, will be taken as an INSET day at
St. Aldhelm’s. Pupils will not be
expected to start a school year on a Friday!
I shall send out the amended calendar with INSET days marked on it next
week. I am sorry if this has caused
inconvenience to parents booking holiday time.

DRUG
AWARENESS SESSIONS FOR PARENTS: The
Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) is developing a scheme that
will help to raise awareness of drug issues and young people.
SASP
is offering to arrange a session that best suits parents: morning, afternoon or
evening, and depending on the response may arrange the session with parents
from other schools.
If
you are interested in attending such a meeting, could you please complete the
tear-off slip at the bottom of the newsletter and return it to school by May 26th.

INTERNATIONAL
NEWS: As part of our link work with our partner
school in Germany, this Wednesday 24th May all the children in
school will be involved in a mini World Cup Football Tournament. Each class is being divided into ‘England’
and ‘Germany’ teams, and short football games will be played between the teams
within each year group. The children
at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn Primary School in Germany will also be doing the
same. By the end of Wednesday all the
results from
our games will have been sent to Germany to add to their results. The overall winning team (England or
Germany) from both schools will be announced in assembly on Friday.
Please
make sure your child has their PE kit in school on Wednesday; daps or preferably
trainers are required as footwear, not football boots.
Reminder
– International tuck is also on Wednesday 24th May. 25p buys an exotic fruit
medley cup. Tess Kaunhoven

Friday
Market – 26th May (Year 4) – Any donations of cakes etc… would be greatly
appreciated.
Collett
Park Festival 10th June – We have booked a pitch and have organised some
games for the day. There is the
potential to raise a lot of money for the school. We will also be holding a balloon race on the day. (Tickets will
be available to buy before the 10th June). Do any of you own small businesses that could support our
balloon race – either by donating some money for a cash prize/help towards purchasing the balloons etc..
or by donating a prize? Please contact
Ruth McCann (01749 880527) if you feel you can help in this way.
We urgently
need some volunteers to help on the day – both on the stall but we also need a
team of 5 or more people to walk around the festival selling balloons and also
blowing them all up!!!! (via a gas cylinder!) We really do need a big team this
year. Please can you let Ruth know on
the above number or let the school office know if you can help for part of the
day and a rota can be drawn up.
Summer
Fayre – 9th July. We would like to be able to
offer pony rides at this year’s fayre – has anyone got a friendly
horse/pony/donkey that would enjoy doing this?
Last
year the beauticians parlour was very successful and we would like to do
it again – if possible we would like to extend the range of services e.g.
hairdressing, waxing, massages, nail painting, make up…. Let’s see if we can
get a great beauty team together.
Has
anybody else got any ideas or has something they could do? (you never know
there may be an acrobat out there!!)
You
can sell your own crafts/home produce - £10 per table.
Please
speak to Liz Barton in the office regarding any of the above.
Bag2school – don’t forget that the
lorry will be coming to school again on Friday 7th July in the
morning. Start bagging up
clothing/curtains/handbags/shoes/soft toys – but do not take anything to school
until 7th July. All these
items will be sent to Eastern Europe and we get paid a certain amount depending
on the weight of all our bags.
